One advantage to being too lazy to post anything for the last two weeks is that I never got around to posting my predictions for last night’s election. My prediction would have been that 2009 would be a mirror image of 2008, with Maine’s gay marriage ban failing but Democrats losing every other high-profile race. And I would have wrong, since bigotry prevailed in Maine and a Democrat won the circus that was the congressional race in New York’s 23rd District.
So what do last night’s elections mean? Clearly, to the extent that Republicans won, it shows that the country hates Obama, while the races that Republicans lost are just local races that have no national significance. I mean, it was obviously Obama’s fault that Virginia Democrats nominated a candidate who couldn’t string together three sentences without contradicting himself, and that the Democratic candidate in New Jersey has had abysmal approval ratings since before Obama was elected.
More thoughts later today on the GOP Civil War in New York and the crushing defeat in Maine.
